The initial name of the company was Silicon and Synapse. It was changed in the year 1994 and the new name was Chaos Studios. During the same year, the name of the company was again changed to Blizzard Entertainment. The company remained independent till 1994 and it was during this year that the company was acquired for the first time, by Davidson & Associates. In 1996, it was overtaken by CUC International and the Next year, Cendant Corporation acquired the company followed by Havas S.A. in 1998 and Vivendi Universal Games. The company remained under the ownership of the Vivendi Games till 2008 as during this year the company was again overtaken by Activation Blizzard.

The product list of the company mainly consists of StarCraft series, Warcraft Series and Diablo series. The Condor Games was overtaken by the company in 1996 and its name was changed to Blizzard North. It was in 1997, that the company had launched its online gaming service known as Battle.net. It established itself in Europe in 2004 and within the next year only, it overtook the Swingin' Ape Studio.
