Piggly Wiggly History
An American grocer, Clarence Saunders, laid the foundation of the company on 6th of September 1916. The first Piggly Wiggly store was opened at the 79 Jefferson Avenue in the Memphis city as self-service grocery store. The company was acquired by Saunders in 1917 and renamed it as Piggly Wiggly Corporation. The company expanded its business and opens various stores throughout the nation. In the year 2003, the current owner, C&S Wholesale Grocers purchased the assets of the company.
