What is Coles?
Coles or Coles Supermarkets is a retail group that operates supermarkets in the regions of Australia. The headquarters of the store is located in Hawthorn East, Victoria, Australia. Coles began its journey on 9 April,1914. Its first store was inaugurated in Smith St, Collingwood, Victoria by its founder GJ Coles. Due to shortage of time, employed people started buying ready made foods from the store as a result of which the store's demand was increased. Coles introduced its cosmetics in 1948. Later in 1959, Coles took possession over Beilby's chain. Its name was changed to Coles supermarkets in 1991 and finally to Coles in 1998.
Under its brand name, Coles delivers convenience products such as health products, Mobile phones & tablets,Liquor, Meat, foods, groceries, chemicals, pesticides, apparels, etc that are branded in the categories of Coles Smart Buy, Coles Organic, Coles Finest, Coles Simply Less, Coles, Coles Green Choice, Coles Simply Less and Mix Clothing. Apart from delivering theses products, it also offers various cooking recipes which can be filtered by courses, ingredients and cuisines etc.
With the strength of about 100,000 employees, and its operational network covers 741 stores, 45 BI-LO Supermarkets, Coles dominates in the Supermarkets of Australia. In 2010 Coles released its new slogan, called "Down Down, Prices Are Down". Later it again launched another slogan titled “There's No Freshness Like Coles Freshness”.
Coles is the subsidiary of Wesfarmers, which is one of the leading retailers in Australia. As per records, Coles generated revenues of worth A$32.07 billion and recorded operating income of A$1.17 billion in the year 2011.
