From 2009 to 2010, the company was listed as the second largest coffee maker in the world after Starbucks and the largest in the United Kingdom on annual revenue basis.

History
The journey of the Costa Coffee was begun in 1971 by the joint efforts of Bruno Costa and Sergio Costa as a distributor of roasted coffee in Lambeth, London. The distribution of roasted coffee was mainly done across local caterers and restaurants. The company entered in retailing business in 1978 with its first outlet opened in Vauxhall Bridge Road, London. Later in 1955, the whole business was acquired by Whitbread PLC, an UK based chain of hotels, coffee shops and restaurants. Costa Coffee bought Coffee Heaven for £36 million which leads to expansion of 79 stores in the Europe.
