What is Shopko?
Shopko is an American retail chain pioneered in selling various types of homely products. The chain came into existence with the opening of its first outlet in Green Bay. It was established in the year 1962 by James Ruben. Shopko was the first company to provide pharmacy services and an eye care center within the store. In the beginning it was known with the name of Shopco and after sometime C alphabet was dropped from the title and was replaced with 'K' alphabet. The stores in Shopko sell different products that includes clothing, footwear, home furnishing products like bedding, home furniture, antique products, jewelry, beauty products, personal care products, consumer electronics goods, medicines, housewares, contact lenses and others. Shopko also own a specialty stores chain known as Shopko Express that sells limited products such as groceries, beer, wine, health and beauty supplies, few medicines. As of April 2013 Shopko had 332 company owned stores that are located in different US states. The chain is owned and operated by Sun Capital Partners, Incorporation, a leading private investment firm.
