State Employees Credit Union is an American credit union that runs under the authority of the Credit Union Division of the NC Department of Commerce. The union was created in the year 1937 by employees of the State of North Carolina with an initial investment of $437 in assets and 17 people as its members in the basement of Raleigh's Agriculture Building. The union provides several banking products and services to its members such as savings accounts, current accounts, consumer loans, mortgages, credit cards, debit cards, investments products like mutual funds, IPOs, securities, commodities etc. The union also run a foundation named 'SECU Foundation' that it formed in the year 2004 to promote community development in North Carolina communities. It helps different types of communities like education, health care and Housing and one of them was the $4 million grant to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences for their planned Nature Research Center which it granted in the year 2009.
