What is CBA?

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia was incorporated in 1911 as a National Bank and was the first to be guaranteed by the government. After relocating to Sydney in 1916, The Commonwealth Bank was designated as the bank note issuing authority in 1920. The bank took over various financial entities such as Government Savings Bank of New South Wales and State Savings Bank of Western Australia by 1930s. It enjoyed the status of Central Bank in Australia until 1960 when its monetary bank operations ware transferred to the Reserve Bank of Australia leaving the former as the commercial bank. The Government of Australia decided to privatize the Commonwealth Bank in 1990 and shares were started offering between 1991 to 1996. In 2000, Commonwealth Bank was merged with Colonial Limited and over the coming years it acquired several banking companies.
